An article on The Playlist speculates that At Any Price may be screened at the Venice Film Festival in August - but they have absolutely nothing to back that up. Anyway, if it happens, that may be our first opportunity to see some reviews and maybe stills/clips.

I could be wrong about this, but isn't the director, Ramin Bahrani, a regular at the Venice Film Festival? If so, then that's probably why At Any Price was mentioned.

According to Variety, Ramin Bahrani's At Any Price will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival 2012 in Special Presentations. TIFF runs Sep 6-16, 2012.

The official announcement from TIFF with confirmation is in a few hours (their press conference starts at 10am EST today) but Variety spilled the beans a bit early and is a reliable source.

What does that mean for Venice? We will find that out on Thursday but the Variety announcement says it's a world premiere so it looks like it will only play in Toronto and not go to Italy. TIFF is a very prestigious international festival as well, so it's not any concern at all if the movie premieres at TIFF. (Bee)

ETA: The press conference just and ended and while Variety seems to have gotten the movies which premiere in Toronto right, they did make a small mistake with At Any Price. According to the official press release from TIFF, At Any Price will have its North American premiere in Toronto, not its world premiere. Which means it will premiere somewhere else before, most likely in Venice. More about that on Thursday, when they announce their line-up.

Sony Classics buys Bahrani's 'At Any Price'

Quote:Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American and Eastern European rights, excluding CIS and Russia, to Ramin Bahrani's family drama "At Any Price."

Black Bear Pictures and TreeHouse Pictures financed "Price," which is in competition in Venice and will be a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Venice showing will be the world premiere for "At Any Price."

Bahrani directed and co-wrote the film with Hallie Elizabeth Newton. It stars Dennis Quaid, Zac Efron, Kim Dickens and Heather Graham.

The film was produced by Pamela Koffler, Teddy Schwarzman, Justin Nappi, Kevin Turen, Christine Vachon, and Bahrani. Ron Curtis, Mo Al Turki, Eric Nyari and Brian Young exec produce.

Story centers on a young man, played by Efron, who wants to pursue his dream of becoming a pro race car driver, while his ambitious father (Quaid) has alienated the whole family and set his sights on his son's succession. When a high-stakes investigation into their business is exposed, father and son are pushed into an unexpected situation that threatens the family's livelihood.

Bahrani's credits include "Man Push Cart," "Chop Shop" and "Goodbye Solo."

The Sony Classics deal was negotiated with CAA on behalf of the film. Exclusive Media aquired international rights to "At Any Price" during Cannes.

The Playlist had some interesting things to say:

"Of all the director/actor pairings of the year, the one between the acclaimed, but so far firmly arthouse-y Ramin Bahrani, the helmer of "Man Push Cart" and "Goodbye Solo," and Zac Efron, fresh-faced star of the "High School Musical" franchise, is one of the most curious. But after festival plaudits and rave reviews, Bahrani seems ready to break out to a wider audience, while Efron, to his credit, is looking to be taken seriously as an adult leading man....

"... A number of other recognizable faces are in the cast, including Heather Graham, Clancy Brown and Kim Dickens, but it's the intriguing, very un-Bahrani-like duo of Efron and Quaid who seem to lead the picture, and with the film set to premiere at Venice before heading to TIFF next month, hopes are certainly high for the film...."

I'm really hoping for good reviews at Venice and TIFF because that could open up so many doors for Zac if it does well. And hopefully the fact that they already have a distributor is a sign that it is really good.

It's not just a distributor, but a very reputable distributor. The fact that a company like Sony Classics picked of AAP is a very encouraging sign.
