Zac bought a guitar and taught himself to play (he doesn't claim to be good). He also took piano lessons for two years and played the clarinet in school band.

I've never seen any reference to Zac being in a band. In school, he was involved in speech competitions, and his community theater and then TV/movie acting kept him very busy.

Is it true he was on the debate team in school?
If so, that explains why he talks to eloquently in interviews and giving speeches at award shows.

I don't know about debate team, but Zac and a partner placed second in the Berkeley International Speech Tournament. He was also in a improv group that won top honors in the worldwide Destination ImagiNation program.
