It would be a perfectly OK idea if they started over with a new cast and story (Star Wars, for example, was a movie series with evolving cast and stories). Another way to continue the franchise would be to set a high school musical in another era, like the 1950s. There's nothing wrong with making more musicals in a high school setting, as long as they don't try to reproduce the East High of Troy and the gang. Can't be done.
