he didn't seem too awkward when mentioning her.. I'm guessing they told him they were thats why he had the pic?
The only thing I'm thinking is that maybe they really did try to stay friends after it and it just didn't work.. so maybe they just cut off all communication and it is taking time for him to get used to it..
I think he is okay though he seems very mature about it he doesn't dismiss it or act like its a sore subject just kinda gets it over with
