This was the first movie anyone got to see him in. (Melinda's World doesn't count; it was some kind of student project and was never shown on TV or in theaters.)

Made-for-cable movies don't get a lot of respect, but they have one big advantage -- they are repeatedly broadcast, even over a number of years, so a lot of people see them who would have missed a movie that played in a theater for just a week or two.

True, but it was nominated for an Emmy, so it does have some respect that comes along with it.

Emmy Awards are made within the TV industry, so of course they would respect their own productions. I was speaking in Hollywood terms, theatrical movies vs. TV movies. There's a reason Zac doesn't do TV acting anymore.

HBO don't show it anymore though. Back then they would show this movie for a week

they barely show the movie on HBO. but at least when they showed 17 again on tv, my friends loved zac from that day
