His "hotness" will only take him so far. He has the range, he needs the parts that will continue to push him. HSM showed his stamina and abilities, but not his range. CSC could have been a perfect storm for him, but somewhere in the writing and filming it got pretty mucked up. He did a fine job, but the movie just lacked something.

Having to get himself deep into a character like Steven just seemed to unlocked something in him and he showed his best range to date.
