I don't think this is strictly true. From the (very) few TLO photos we've seen, he appears unshaven but not with an actual beard (that is, facial hair more than a few days old).
lol im still going to watch TLO even if zac has a beard...it's still zac!
well like in the book, half way through elizabeth makes him clean up (shave his beard)
and the stills we have are still before when elizabeth does so..
zac is not fully bearded on TLO lol
