I’ve already had a few relationships where it turned out after a while that we really just didn’t have anything to say to eachother.

Do you think people are cooler at 17 than 21. Or is it the other way round?

Zac Efron:
I don’t think that coolness is dependent on age. But to be totally honest, I don’t think I was cool then or now. At 17 you’re perhaps trying to act super-cool so that you can hide your own insecurities and flaws though.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
Would you like to go back and be 17?

Zac Efron:
No, I’m completely happy that I’m a bit older now. When you’re 17 you’re right on the cusp of being an adult and it’s can be pretty unsettling at times. But I still remember clearly that I really didn’t want to become adult back then.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
How come?

Zac Efron:
Hmmm, I felt completely happy doing the things that teenagers do: skateboarding, listening to music, going to the cinema…

VANITYFAIR.DE:
…checking girls out…

Zac Efron:
…(laughs) but only very discretely. I was far too shy for all of that.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
So you must have been a complete heart-throb at High School too…?

Zac Efron:
Absolutely not! Totally the opposite! The guys that the girls liked were mostly the sports stars. I was never particularly good at sport. For the basketball scenes in 17 again I had to practise really hard. Sure, I played ball at high school, but the other guys were all twice as tall as I was. I never had a chance. For me, it was more like the experience of my film alter-ego, Matthew Perry. He told me that he was the “king of the geeks” at High School was. That describes me pretty accurately too.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
As a teenager did you have enough time for yourself then? You were already in the film industry at the age of 16…

Zac Efron:
Of course I had a slightly different childhood as most kids, sure. But I didn’t miss out really. I still hang out with a lot of my friends from then now. They’re at college now - - I’m making films. That’s the only difference. None of us has had an easy ride.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
You could say, that you have more publicity than your college friends though. How is it being a Hollywood poster boy?

Zac Efron:
Of course I’m really happy that so many people seem to like me. But I’m far from big-headed about it all. My family makes sure of that. At home I’m definitely not treated like a film star, but my Mom will be like: „Zac, take the rubbish out quickly, will you?“ Yeah, I mean, it’s true that I can’t go out as spontaneously as I used to. Even going for pizza is something I need to plan. But that’s okay. What I don’t understand is why there are always 10 paparazzi crowded around me und snapping pictures like crazy when I’m just buying a few magazines at a kiosk.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
How does your family handle your success?

Zac Efron:
They’re really laid back about it. Although…my Mom said the other day, „we’ve created a monster!“ But she was just kidding.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
What’s the best advice that your parents have ever given you?

Zac Efron:
My Dad once said to me: „Zac, when you do something, then do it properly. Try to always give your best.” That was on the day that I had to show him my grades and I’d got a B instead of an A in one subject. That had disappointed him. He said, “Would it have been that much more difficult to get an A?” I’ve always remembered that.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
So you want to be the best at everything?

Zac Efron:
No, not that. But I always want to give my best.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
Have you also fallen in love with a woman almost twice your age, like your character in the film?

Zac Efron:
No, hardly in my friends’ moms, but yeah, at High School there might have been the odd crush. I still remember our biology teacher. She was something…

When did you kiss a girl properly for the first time?

Zac Efron:
You mean, when was my first kiss with ulterior motives? That was at High School, when I was 17, if I remember correctly. My first proper kiss was really romantic. We were in a tree house and had lit candles and laid them out everywhere. And as it went dark out we were kissing passionately. But that was all…

VANITYFAIR.DE:
In the film „17 again“ teenage abstinence is propogated. Is that something you believe in?

Zac Efron:
I’d rather not say anything about that, because whatever I say somebody will get offended.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
What is your biggest love – music or acting?

Zac Efron:
It would be ideal when I could always combine the two. We’ll have to see what happens. It all started with Michael Jackson and “thriller.” My Mom listened to nothing but that CD for weeks. And I was in the backseat of the car as it was playing and started singing along.

I just get on my skateboard and off I go. I used to skate around my apartment but I’ve just got myself a new house with a few pieces of really cool furniture so I’m sort of passing on indoor-skating for now.

You were in deals to start in the remake of „footloose“ for a long time. Why did you decide to let it go?

Zac Efron:
I’ve never had anything agains the remake- But after a lot of thought I came to the conclusion that I didn’t want to do another musical already. I feel mature enough to try new challenges now.

VANITYFAIR.DE:
Is everything all sunshine and rainbows for you? Or is there anything that you regret?

Zac Efron:
Right now I feel completey happy. What do I regret? There is something: when I was in Rio de Janeiro recently, I couldn’t go to the amazing Copacabana beach because of the paparazzi. That was a real shame. But next time I’m in Rio, I definitely am not going to miss out on that.

And what are your plans for after this interview?

Zac Efron:
I’m going to go back to my hotel room and send Vanessa a text. It’s still way too early to ring LA.

Did the translator "manipulated" the interview in his translation for the paper - I don't know.
But if you mean the user here who translated it then no, she didn't make it up. I'm from Germany and read the original one, she translated it literally into English.
I neither know nor do I care if it's true but the translation of what is written in the interview is correct.

This isnt real.GEEZ people you see one little mention of Zanessa and the majority of you go crazy believing it.
look all the other interviews he has done in regards to Vanesssa. He very rarely mentions here by name when discussing there relationship.also rhe whole sms is off as is the way he answers the questions
