Zac Talks Future Music Plans

Zac Efron might have starred in a few musicals in his time, but that doesn’t mean the “17 Again” star listens to show tunes in his off-time.
“[I listen to] anything and everything,” he told MTV News, showing us his iPhone and jokingly adding, “It’s all musicals!” Actually, he loves Kasabian, Asher Roth and “Radiohead, of course.”
And when Efron isn’t busy making musicals, he likes to check out concerts. His favorite recent concert experience was a Kings of Leon show Down Under. “I just saw the Kings of Leon in Australia. They do a great show,” he said. “It’s just music.”
Efron also recently got the chance to work with another one of his favorite bands, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, when they both appeared on “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. Unfortunately, Efron was too busy to see the band perform last week. “I missed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ show. They were here, and I was invited,” he said. “I had to get up early and do talk shows, so I was a good person. There were some other songs I wanted to hear [that they didn't perform on 'SNL'].”
Although Efron is a big fan of music, he doesn’t think he’ll be hitting the studio anytime soon to work on an album - unless he can learn to do it all on his own.
“I’ve always been a fan of music. I love it. It’s my life, but at the same time, it’s not necessarily my passion to an extent where I want to create it and put it out there,” he said. “I think that potentially it could be someday. I think the day I could make an album is the day I could write and produce it on my own terms and when I have the skills and wisdom to do it.”

yeah, but i have a feeling if he did start to produce his own songs, they're the kind of songs he would create. meaningful ones.

Yes I dont think Zac would do anything half heartedly, he would do it because its what he wants to do not to please other people. It was rumoured that he was offered a six figure sum to record an album before and that did not sway him. It would be interesting to one day hear his own work should he choose to do this.

This was a very diplomatic way of saying "not gonna happen any time soon."

Zac had said a while ago that he really didn't like the whole acting and music gig. If he was gonna do it, he should have done so during the High School Musical/ Hairspray run. I found those old comments kind of funny because his girlfriend, and other friends (Corbin and Ashley) were all doing just that at the time.

As much as I would love to hear a full length album from Zac, I'm kinda glad that he hasn't gone in that direction. He wants to be seen seriously as an actor and acting is his passion, not music. Yes, he can sing, but that's not his focus and I appreciate how he hasn't swayed. To me, it's kinda getting annoying how singers are wanting to act now and actors are wanting to sing. I do love some actors who are singers and vice versa, but it is getting kinda old. I hope Zac sticks with acting in the long run, singing a few songs here and there, but nothing to turn him into a singer/actor! :p

wut about ashley tisdale? vanessa hudgens? corbin bleu? hilary duff? justin timberlake? all of them did acting before singing. if zac has an interest in the music business, i think he should do it.

and yea, if zac were to write songs, they would be meaningful. depending on the song, style, and the outlook on fans, he could be as good as U2. they write tons of meaningful songs that matter a lot.

and sure he said awhile back that he doesn't wanna do into the music business like ash, corbin or nessa did.
but over the year maybe he had a little thought into it.
but he also said if he changes his mind he'll call that guy who offer him a record deal and stuff.
plus I would love to see Zac singing his own meaningful songs also hehe ;) count the HOT photoshoot pics for his album too haha.

if he does this and stuff and maybe he rejected first up cuz he didn't wanna be a all singing all dancing guy but now he is now moving onto serious roles maybe he had a little thought into it and stuff.

maybe when he was offered first up and he rejected maybe he didn't want to steal jesse mccartneys fame and stuff cuz I think Jesse went into singing first and then into Acting.
but thats what im thinking.

And if he decided on a music career then so be it, but he said he's not a 'musician' , he's a singer. Which says alot for him. He doesnt want to put any old thing out and sell it on his name.

I'm glad he didn't go making any albums during the HSM and Hairspray period, as Zac was seen as the 'face' of HSM I think he would have been taken less seriously in the music world no matter how good an album he put out just because of that.

I would love to hear an album from him sometime in the future to hear how well his voice has matured, it would be a shame to waste that good singing voice!

I'd totally support him if he turned to music- but he is such an amazing actor he shouldn't change his career path too soon! As Beee said- Simon Cowell offered him a recording contract and I'm so glad he turned it down. Stick to what you do best, Zac :)
