Zac Efron (http://justjaredjr.buzznet.com/tags/zac-efron) may not be singing and dancing his way onto the big screen in Footloose but Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford (http://justjaredjr.buzznet.com/tags/chace-crawford) is definitely looking to fill those dancing shoes.
Sources tell E! (http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/marc_malkin/b106824_crawford_chasing_after_footloose_remake.ht ml) that Chace, 23, tested over the weekend for the lead role of Ren McCormick. They shared, “He did really well.”
Zac, 21, recently dropped out of the flick after another script change was ordered. A Paramont Pictures press release stated, “Footloose is a project we’ve longed to see rebooted for a new generation. While Zac in no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of [HSM turned Footloose director] Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, who will reinvigorate the franchise. Honestly, I'm indifferent. Like many other people I was interested to see what Zac would do with the character of Ren. At this point, not so much.

If Crawford get's the part, he's gonna have to work hard. The media still is calling that role "the one vacated by Zac Efron." I think that goes to show how much hype was surrounding that movie. Clearly the expectations are still high and I hope Crawford can live up to the hype.

Seeing as Footloose only wanted Zac for the money and the people he would've brought in, Chace seems like a good replacement. They are similar appearance wise, other than Chace actually looks his age. Chace has a huge following with Gossip Girl.

OH my God is this for real? I'd love to see Chace in a new movie but a musical? I really don't know what his singing and dancing capabilities are but it'd definitely be interesting to find out... he definitely has his looks going in the right direction for him. ;)

Why did Zac drop out anyway?

Long story made short, to do a drama namely The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.

Footloose has been placed on hold while Paramount decides if they want to push on or not. It's funny because one outlet has Chace's publicist denying he even auditioned, while another keeps going that he "wowed" producers. I'm gonna stick with EW on this one, that he didn't audition.

I know Chace has had fans showing up to the filming locations in NY for Gossip Girl begging him to do Footloose. The execs for Gossip Girl have said they had to get more security and that Chace is going to head home to Texas after filming. At least that's what an article said.

They have, though one article continues to run with the story while others are willing to go along with EW's report from his reps.

If it wasn't such a huge challenge to just replace Zac Efron, don't you think they would have done so by now so they could keep on schedule as Paramount initially wanted? Why else would the studio have put the project on hold and is considering if they even want to continue?

I haven't seen Chace in anything, so I really don't know what he can do. So, again, I'm indifferent.

I don't know, I think Chace is really cute and manly. I think we should wait for the movie and see what he can do. We're used to Zac singing and dancing in movies. We've never seen Chace do anything like this before so this should be very interesting. I think this could be a good move for Chace and his career because he has other movies under his belt already.
