I've gotten quite a few question's on how I made this icon (http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq273/leftfordeadd/vanavi-77.png), and instead of just telling one person on how to do it, I decided to reach a lot of people at once. This is really easy to do, and it creates a beautiful effect.
So let's get started shall we?
First off I am not going to provide where I got my picture, the cropping and the coloring, that's photocopying my icon, and honestly, you really want to create something of your own. This is your icon, be creative with it.
Gather your picture(s) first of all, that's kind of a given. ;)
Go to File > New (CTRL + N) > 100 by 100 pixel canvas.
Prepare your base how it's needed, if you want a good outcome with this, use a more centered space. The more negative space the better. :)
At this stage your icon should look like this. (http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq273/leftfordeadd/tut3.png)
Now, take the Rounded Rectangle Tool, found here. (http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq273/leftfordeadd/tutttt.jpg) (If it doesn't look like that, simply right click on it, and choose it off the options provided. It should be the second one down.
Now drag it across the icon, until your satisfied with the outcome. There should be a rounded rectangle tool 'drawn' into your icon.
Now, you're probably wondering, what do we do now? Simply, right click anywhere on the icon, and click 'Make Selection'.
This should come up (http://i455.photobucket.com/albums/qq273/leftfordeadd/tuttttt.jpg). Match your settings to mine, and click okay.
Now go to Edit > Copy (CTRL +C) and then go to Edit > Paste (CTRL + V) it back onto the same icon.
Go to your background layer and click delete.
Save and you're done! :)
