I've been searching for a tutorial on how to do this for a whileand found a few sites that showed you how to do different things and so i put it together and came out with this; what we'll be making!! (i'm using photoshop cs3)

open a new work space i used 800x600 and get your pics i found mine here (http://vanessafan.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=336&pos=20). i then opend this (http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=madc4dso1.png)(c4d) nd use it as my background. I then sharpened it duplicated it and then i set the duplicated layer at soft light 100% after, filter>pixelate>mosiac set at 5.


then i added my pics; click (http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6974/masktutsteponeop0.png)
once you've got your pics they way you want them merge them together, just the pics though not your bg as well.


Now i add some coloring;


new fill layer; 000033 set at exlusion 100%


selective color


-reds~ -100, -13, +47, +42


-yellows~ +49, -62, -100, -100


-blues~ +20, +15, +35, +55


-magentas~ +100, -100, +100, +100


-whites~ 0, 0, 0, -100


-blacks~ +28, 0, 0, +29
(you can always re-adjust these to your liking, it depends on the pics you use :])

once you are happy with your blend and background, merge down/flatten and make a whole new workspace the same size as your blend. make the background layer transparent. once it's opened make a new layer (CTR+SHIFT+N) fill it white. (SHIFT+F5) and ano' layer but leave this one transparent. your layer pallete should look like this.

now on layer 3 we will add our mask textures and other brushes.
Open up the mask texture you like i used this (http://i41.tinypic.com/21o28va.jpg) one, now make this
a brush, if you don't know how click edit > define brush preset and
a box will pop up name it whatever you like and then click ok.


go back onto the brand new workspace we just opened drag your blend onto this so it's above everything.


click your brush tool and change it to your chosen mask, hover it
over your work so you can see how it would look and also to get
the size right. Now make sure you're on your 3rd layer and your
foreground color is white.

now click where you want it. it won't show because your blend's
over it just leave it like that for now.


on my blend i had three images at the bottom to get them to show i changed my brush to a film strip sorta thing and clicked once over
each of them sill on layer three and in white. do this with other brushes
to add fancy decorations or whatever in the corner and stuff :D


when you're done with adding your brushes right click on layer four
which is your blend in your layer pallette and click create clipping mask,

Open a new document, 800 x 600. make a new layer (CTRL, SHIFT + N) select your rectangular marquee tool (M) start from the top left corner and drag it acroos the top half of your blank doc. when done right click, and press fill and choose black.

duplicate this layer (CTRL + J) and move it to the bottom of your doc.

choose your images, probably easier to have ones with more or less the same background so it blends together better.


Resize them to your liking and place along the white that's showing in your document leave a bit in the middle so you can put your bigger pic in :D

now place your big picture in the middle and erase the whole of the background around it.

i then added and new layer and selected the rectangular marquee tool again. Drag it across where the black meets the white on the top left just a little so you have a thin rectuangular box across the top.

right click and choose fill and pick a colour you think that will match the wallpaper. click okay then choose your move tool. duplicate this box and move it to the bottom.

zoom in about 250% and choose your rubber tool and erase parts of the bar that cover the big pic,


now add your coloring and text and any other extras and voila :D

okay open a new document, any size and do what you wish. then add your text as normal, even add coloring and textures. =] here's what i'm using;

Then merge/flatten your image.


okay now we repeat the text only this time make each letter a new layer. your layer pallete should now look like this.

make sure the new text we've just made is a different color from your original. =] and zoom in about 250-300% after clicking the move tool to move each letter above the originals.


so it's this;

now jump to image ready or open your animation bar etc and remove the eyes from your text layers in your layer pallete except from the first one, like so.

if you want it like the vanessa hudgens avi in the top, where it moves in from both sides keep your last text layer eye showing.

now in your animation bar duplicate the first frame and take the first eye off and the second eye on. duplicate frame take second eye off, third eye on, duplicate frame take third eye off fourth eye on. etc.


again if you want it like the first one (vanessa hudgens) take the first and last one off and put the second and second to last layer on. duplicate frame take second and second to last text layer (eye) off fourth and fourth to last layer on. etc. :)

and click the delay button, in any frame, which is in the bottom right hand corner and pick one.

and you're done :) now just go to file>save for web & devices, make sure it's set to .gif and your coloring is at 256.


for non-ps cs3 users i think it's file>save optimised as(guessing here)? i'm not quite sure but i think it's something along those lines, if it's not, some one please correct me ;D

open a new work space. i used 450x225. grab your pics, i found mine here (http://vanessafan.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=336&pos=18). drag your chosen pics onto your new workspace and blend them together, more to one side rather than in the center. flatten image, then sharpen.

take your rubber tool, hardness set at 0 and the diameter set at 215 (well that's what i used) then rub down the side so it looks like it fades into the white;

now to the little images, make four new workspaces (CTRL + N) i used the sizes, 100x90, 105x75 and 130x50. drag them onto your blend and place them where you like. for the fourth one i duplicated the base (your blend) and then resized it after clicking the move tool and placing it near where i placed the 3 others.


add drop shadows, borders etc to the small pics and then add coloring;

i then used this texture;

set at either multiply, darken or darker color (depends on your pics)

First open a new workspace, i used 800x600 but this is yours use what ever size you wish :]


gather your pics and place them in the centre of your workspace;

Get your rubber tool [E] and erase around the pics. i then changed the middle one black and white [CTR + SHIFT + ALT + B] then added a brightness contrast;


brightness = 15
Contrast = 35

okay this is really quite easy so make your blend i made a new workspace (475x250) and put the pics to one side of the space. sharpen them if needed.

edit > stroke 2px and select a color you think will match your siggie/banner etc. Im going to use blue. again location set inside. hit okay! then press CTRL and D to deselect!


and finish!

now before i copied them onto our new workspace i coloured them. if i coloured them onto our workspace it wouldn't end up transparent with the coloring i'm going to use. Also i find this way easier :]


only optional, you don't have to use this coloring if you don't want to :] note; this ain't mine, can't remember where it's from but kudos to said person :lol3:


okay sharpen it.


duplicate your base layer, change the blending mode to screen and set the opacity and 20%.

set this layer at softlight 24%.


Make a Hue/Saturation layer.


Yellows.
Hue > 0
Saturation > -50
Lightness > 0


Duplicate your base layer and drag it to the top of all your layers and set it to softlight 30%.


Duplicate your base layer again drag to the top. go to filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 2.0 pixels. set this layer at 42% softlight!


if it's looking a little yellow make a Hue/Saturation layer.


Yellows.
Hue > 0
Saturation > -100 (but for the Vanessa pic i'm using right now, i used -25)
Lightness > 0


New fill layer > #8f9da1 set at multiply 40%

Brightness/Contrast;
Brightness > +10
Contrast > +22

Another Brightness/Contrast layer;
Brightness > +17
Contrast > +4.


Whew, done with the coloring haha.

simply hit CTRL + x to cut it.


now back to our orignal blank workspace :] and hit CTRL + v and resize your pic so if fits nicely in the chosen size of your workspace.


Do this step to each of your chosen pics;

and make a new layer above your pics (CTRL, SHIFT + N) and simply drag it across the bottom of your pics;

right click on your image while the rectangular marquee tool is still selected and click fill, hit okay and then press CTRL + D, to deslect.


i then right clicked on the rectangle layer we just made in the layer pallette clicked blending options. to add a drop shadow. here are my drop shadow settings;

if there's any of your pics sticking out below the rectangular box just grab your eraser/rubber tool and get rid of them


i then grabbed this (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4065/newspaperbrush.png) newspaper texture and put it underneath all my layers.


now because we are working on a transparent background when we set this to multiply nothing happens. So i grab the rubber tool, right click on it and select the magic eraser tool.

and then click the white that's around the text on the newspaper texture. and the white should disappear, i then sharpened the text that was left of this texture, just to make the writing appear more darker


do exactly the same with this (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/2281/luckybrush.png) texture. i duplicated it a few times after repeating the above step and moved it around so it was sticking out at random places.

next, take your text tool and write your text (make sure this is on top of everything in your layer pallette :p


i'm simply going to put Vanessa Hudgens over the rectangle box we made earlier. the text i used was Lucida Calligraphy which was already on my computer, i added the a drop shadow and a 1px stroke in black.

and you've finished : D now go to file > save as > insert name of your banner here and make sure you save it as .png or else it won't be transparent when you upload it!

okay grab your pics and open a new workspace i used 450x250. Make sure your pics are hq and are really big. Choose one pic, the one you want really big and place it on your canvas make it a tiny bit smaller so just the head fits on the canvas and move it to one side of your canvas; sharpen it if it needs it or you want to (=

now take your two other pictures and make them smaller placing them on the opposite side of the big picture on your workspace;

Open your pictures and a new workspace I’m using 450x225 and I’m using these Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus ones. I recommend pictures with a solid background so they blend easily.


Place this (http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/6314/stripeshalf.png) texture down on your new workspace and place/resize how you like it.

Then place your pictures underneath it and take your rubber tool to blend them nicely.

Okay now add your colouring; I’d quote the one I’ve used but I’m at work so don’t have it right now :p but this is mine with the coloring

Now take the fill tool [G] and change your foreground colour to a nice colour that will match your blend/banner and click on every other stripe on the stripe texture (make sure you’ve selected the texture layer in the layer palette)

Change the foreground colour to another matching colour and fill the two remaining stripes

Open two new pictures and turn them black and white by adding a gradient map and some contrast with a brightness contrast layer.

Flatten the image and select your rectangular marquee tool;

*And cut around her face, hit CTRL + C to copy it and go back to your blend and hit CTRL + V to paste it on the top of all your other layers. Resize and place where you think looks best;

I then did the above step* with this (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1002/grainy.jpg) texture; place these underneath your small circle pictures.

I then right clicked on the circle pictures and added a stroke one with the blue color I used for the first three stripes of the stripe texture and the other with the yellow from the texture. I also added a drop shadow to the grainy texture we’ve place behind the small circle pictures.

Then place that grainy texture over everything and set at multiply 100% and erase any unwanted speckls; say over the circle pics.

I then made a new layer on top of everything and took my brush tool, diameter at 100 px and hardness at 0% and changed my foreground color to pink.


And clicked on two random places and set this layer to screen/lighten @ 100% and added my text!

and to make that avi bar :lol3:! is quite simple. just make your avis, sharpen color etc, then make a new workspace, now this is depending on the size of your avis, say you've made three 100x100 you'll need to make your new workspace 350(w)x120(h). make sure your new workspace is transparent before you open it. or it won't work. then drag your avis on to the new worskpace (after you've flattened/merged them) and then add drop shadows/strokes etc. hope this helps! (:
