Zac Efron Gets Serious For 'Orson Welles And Me'

Zac Efron isn't graduating from East High until May, but the 20-year-old star is already enrolled in a masters program for continued education... from none other than the director of "Citizen Kane."

"I leave for London in a few days," Efron excitedly revealed of his schedule for "Orson Welles and Me," a new movie in which he will play a teen who gets caught up in the rise of Wells' Mercury Theater. "He gets swept into this amazing adventure and in a way becomes Orson Welles' protégé. It's just a very, very fun coming-of-age story."

It's a story that somewhat mirrors Efron's own meteoric rise through super-stardom, from teen heartthrob in the popular but "cheesy" "High School Musical" series, to what he hopes will be a career as a more serious actor, he revealed.

"It's a completely different project than I've ever done before," Efron teased. "Gosh, I would say, that's the main reason I'm looking forward to doing [it]. It's just a side I've never really shown before. I think it's going to be a lot of color in this movie. A lot of things you haven't seen before, hopefully. I'm crossing my fingers, anyway."

But while Efron will soon sit at the feet of one of cinema's greatest ever artists (or, at least a reasonable facsimile, anyway), the boy who sent a thousand teenage hearts a twitter says the person he'd really like to get career advice from isn't actually that much older. Remember when the King of the World had pimples?

"I think someone who's made very wise choices is Leonardo DiCaprio. He's kind of my definition of teen star because when I was growing up his face was everywhere," Efron gushed. "I think since then he's developed an incredible body of work. If there's anyone I'd like to emulate it's him."

I met him there last night.
Basically I was with my mates in Chinatown sitting on a little temple like picnic table and he walked past us, stopped and stared.
i then went "waaaaait a minute was that zac efron?"
he then went into a shop and walked out and i stopped him and we chatted.
he was completely on his own just walking down the streets, apparently we were the first people to recognise him at all the whole time he'd been there- he was just strolling along a bit lonely listening to his ipod.

so if u can get to london i wouldd go cos he literally was just there walking around alone as if he was any other person.

he got out the script and showed me and everything.
he was very nice, had a very deep voice and he was wearing the blue hat. (i think they camp him up a little bit usually haha)

anyways, just thought id tell u all that it is definitely worth it. especially as he said "i cant actually ever walk the streets in america"- i think he was quite glad to be normal in London, but yeah he seemed lonely.

they're apparently starting filming on the isle of man on the 24th so he'll probably only be In London for a few more days. They're filming at pinewood studios in buckinghamshire, its all closed sets and backlots so you couldn't see anything without somehow getting past security!

for anyone that's interested..one of the filming locations, the gaiety theatre on the isle of man is being visited on ghost hunting with coronation street on itv2 tonight (Monday) at 9! Apparently there's a ghostly lady in black living there :lol:

yeah when we walked with him a little bit he was walking away from chinatown up in the leicester square direction.
he seemed to know where he was going pretty well and thats a very confusing part of london so it probably was the same place.

also, dont expect to see him, he'll come to u not the other way around haha. ive spent too much of my life after meeting famous people in london hoping that it will happen again in the same way and it never does.

i didnt even know he was in london and havent really obsessed about meeting him for about 2 years so just be cool and it could happen!

otherwise u may just get disappointed, and i dont want to have caused any of that just because i happened to be in the right place at the right time haha.

They're due to start filming in the isle of man on the 24th so i'd presume they'd be there by saturday by the latest...a random fact for anyone on a mission to find him is they'll probably fly from London City Airport, when that will be though is anyone's guess!

Pinewood is only 30/40 minutes from central london and Kelly Reilly who is also in the film said she's been rehearsing for the last 2 weeks, not actually filming yet and the start date is officially the 24th...so maybe they've just been doing read throughs and stuff and after the isle of man he'll be back for filming at pinewood :?:

I got my mum to ring Pinewoods and they were prepairing props last week to send to the Isle of Man,
I looked into going there as i thought there would be more chance seeing him there as its so small and we know where he is filming but its a 3 hour drive for me to the port and then i believe the ferry is about 2.5 hours....So would be a BIG effort!
I think he will come to buckinghamshire after Isle of man as he was only in london a while and from what people are saying he wasnt filming he was adventuring around London. The question is how long will he be in the Isle of man??

and also yeah he'll def come back from the hsm3 premiere, and last time they were here lucas grabeel and a gang of his friends stopped next to me and listened to the musician in covent garden- so u can never go wrong.

You never know, his dad did go to australia with him! He was away when they filmed hairspray...im sure he'll make new friends with some of the cast! Anyway...good news, i will be going to the isle of man on the 6th march to be an extra at the gaiety theatre for 2 days of shooting so i will of course report my adventures back here. I doubt i'll catch a glimpse of zac other than during scenes when he's on stage but that will be more than i got when he was in london lol plus i'm going to be with a friend i havent seen in nearly a year so there is a lot of gossip to catch up on...we'll be the 2 girls in the audience that look uncomfortable wearing knee length skirts :lol:

Exactly, he's now on a tiny island where everyone knows he's there, where he's filming and where he's staying so its just one of those things, I hardly think he cries himself to sleep at night for being screamed at by adoring fans! The break from the attention in London was probably nice for a few days but it must be weird going from not being able to walk down to street to anonymity to not being able to walk down the street again!

I think the isle of man is probably closer to wales, depending on which part of wales you live in! It's north of wales, and in between north west england and ireland...it's right in the middle of the british isles basically lol



Yeah I reckon hes probably loving th freedom and the fact that he doesnt get mobbed as much here as he does in the US.....not sayin we dont love him as much, coz we do lol...just that hsm is bigger in the us lol

Yeah im in london and my friend is in carlisle (the other end of the country!)...we were looking at meeting half way for a few days because we havent seen each other in so long then this came up. The fees cover most of our costs so it works out a cheap weekend away and we get to do something we've never done before!

That picture was taken in LA last year...it was just someone saying they spotted him there and they used the old picture to go with the story, he wasn't in New York.

Obviously! I'm sure he's been avoiding me on purpose since he arrived, and now he better wish I dont meet him because I already had some things to moan at him about and now he's gone too far!!

I was suppose to take my sister to the HSM 2 premiere in London last year but because she's disabled, she's quite small and can't really stand up for herself, I, being a responsible person, contacted both Disney and the O2 where it was held to make sure there would be disabled facilities available because I was worried about her getting squashed by hundreds of screaming girls. Both Disney and the O2 were very unhelpful and basically said they don't care about people with special needs and if she gets hurt it's my problem. It is actually a criminal offence not to make a public event accessible by everyone regardless of their disabilities so they were breaking the law. Anyway in the end it meant my sister couldn't go if they couldn't guarantee her safety so i've made it somewhat of a mission since Zac arrived in London to rectify the injustice she had to face by not being able to go to the premiere with all the other fans. Even my friend suggested we become extras in the Isle of Man, which we did, and that didn't work either, I've run out of ideas now!

Oh my gosh that is terrible! I would have thought out of all the companies out there, Disney would be one of the concerned ones about diabilities...
I guess we cant put that dissapointment onto Zac though as he proberly didnt even know about the issue! But i definatly see how your annoyed!
I suggest you write a detailed letter to Disney about how you couldnt attend the premier because of this and request anything they could possibly do for you for perhaps the HSM3 premier??

Im gutted he has supposedly gone back already :( I looked into going to the Isle of Man but it is quite a journey from where i live, so i planned to go to pinewood where he was possibly going to be after the isle of man but i hear he has returned to the US already!
PLUS!...I live about an hour from london and dont go there often!..On sunday i was at a makeover day i had recieved as a gift and after id been pampered me and my boyfriend went shopping on oxford street..I must have spent about 2 hours in Topshop with all its 4 floors! And Zac was spotted IN topshop the day after :(....Gutted!!!!
