How to Make Animated Letters in Avvies--Tutorial by Jordan
First, let me say that this tutorial was made for Adobe Imageready 3.0 and above, so don't ask me "will this work for Animation Shop?" or something, cause I don't know.
ALSO--IF THIS DOESNT WORK FOR YOU AND YOU GET STUCK AT THE CTRL+G PART, THEN YOU AHVE A VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP THAT DOESNT WORK WITH THIS TUTORIAL. SORRY=[[

It seems like a lot of people have been wondering how to make an avvie that looks like this:

So I'm here to teach you how!

The Beginning:
1. Open Photoshop. Open a new document 100x100 pixels and put on the picture you want the background of the avvie to be. Type your text and format it however you want.

The Middle:
2. Create a new layer ABOVE the text layer.
3. Choose a small (3-5 pixels) round brush and a main color. I chose #68503F for my main color for this avvie.
4. Make a straight line. Simple, huh?

5. Change your color to white. On the same layer, with a 1 pixel brush, make a line on both sides of the big line.

6. Use the blur tool (It looks like a waterdrop and is underneath the eraser) and blur the line. Don't blur it too much, and not too little. Just enough so they blend together nicely.

7. Make sure that the layer with the blurred lines is ABOVE the layer with the text. Move it to the left of the text, but make sure it's not touching the text.
8. Press and hold Ctrl+G. The blurred lines should dissapear.

The End:
9. Jump to Imageready (Ctrl+Shift+M)
10. You should see an Animation Bar on the page. If you don't, go to Window-->Animation.
11. Click on New Slide (the red circle) in the Animation Bar.

12. In your Layers bar, click on the layer with the blurred lines above the text. There should be a little arrow to the left of the layer.
13. Now click the arrow tool and drag this layer to the right of your text. Make sure it doesn't touch the text.
14. Click on the Tween button (the red circle).

15. A new screen should pop up. Use these settings:

Finished Product:
16. Now press PLAY (The arrow to the left of the tween button. NOT the one with the line next to it) and see your masterpiece! You can now add any extras that you want. This is what I got:

You see, my computer is retarded. Literally.
so, I can't type in Photoshop.
So one day, I made the alphabet--pixel by pixel.
And amde each letter into a brush.
So yeah.

No.
The colors should be ABOVE THE TEXT LAYER.
Then you press CTRL+G. And a little arrow should pop up on the side of the layer. Did that happen?

I'm in ImageReady, and the lines aren't showing, but the little arrow is.
How exactly do you move the lines to the right of the text with the arrow?

You're doing good.
So, now you have 2 slides. You click the layer with the lines.
Then click the arrow tool.
and move them to the right of the text.

i think i might have it but i did it differently.
and i cant get it to upload because it says its not the right file.
so when im done do i press ctrl+shift+m and then go back to adobe photoshop and save it for the web
or do i save it in adobe image ready? because im not sure what to do.

do you mean scanlines? it's a brush pack.

Haha, well then near the top of the screen, there should be a thing that says layers. click it.
go to layers->new->layer
if that doesn't work, maybe you're just holding shift+ctrl+n for too long.

download Photoshop...and it comes with ImageReady already. you can illegally download it off of limewire, or use the free trial.
or better yet just buy it. but it costs a lot.

When you make the lines disappear, amanda, by holding CTRL+G, are you doing it in photoshop or imageready?
also, are you creating a new layer, by going to layer->new->layer, and making it above the text.

you know the arrow tool in the left side of the window [the one that is on the top right]...click that then make sure the layer that is set is the one with the lines [check by looking at the layer part in the bottom right of the window], then click the avi, and you'll see whatever color you used for the lines, and scroll that to the end of the text. then Tween it, and it should work.

When I do for the blur lines, and the Ctrl G It doesn't disappear, wellhowI look at it it doesn't unless..wellnot sure how it should be. But when I do the Ctrl G it has a Group 1 pop up in the layer thing..is that suppose to happen?

I've got it now. But when I save it, it autmatically saves it as a Photshop document. (.psd) and photobucket can't upload that. How do I save it as a .gif?

Still, my only problem is that I can't get the lines to disappear. I click Ctrl+G and it makes a group. So, I go to Adobe Imageready, but the line is still there, and theres another line on top of it, I don't know WHAT line but my computer doesn't do print screen..sorry. And then WHAT ARROW??? and for falling? I just put them in the corner, then use Imagready and after each slide I move the heart down a little.
it's REALLY hard to exlain if youre not familiar with Imagready.

like the little moving hearts, making it do that in just a few words and that the line comes in diffrent directions like in the pink one..?

for the heart, justmake a little heart with the brush tool, and then do the same with the letters--put it at its starting location and then at it's ending location, and press TWEEN.
I use font Bit 3.
and for the 3 at the same time, i just put the three lines of text on different layers.
then make one of those 'line things' for all of them, each starting at a different spot on the layer they were CTRL+Ged to. and then in Imageready, you make a new layer and move them ALL to the oposite side, and tween.

it kinda worked but when i save it it only saves as. like a photoshop thing.
and not jpeg.
and when i saved it.
it opens up in photoshop.
and doesn't animate.
it kinda worked in imageready though?

You make a new layer. Make the brush in one area and put it where you want. Press CTRL+G. Go to Imageready and do everything otherwise. Make a new layer and move the hearts. I hope that helps!

So, I think I got everything right until step # 11.
Then I clicked the layer with the lines in the Layers bar, but it wouldn't let me drag the layer o_Ô
Maybe I did something wrong?
I clicked on the second picture, then clicked the layer with the lines and tried to drag it, but it didn't work.
EDIT: So I tried again and I seem to be having the same problem manda did.
The lines won't disappear when I click Ctrl+G.
And so this is what it looks like now:

I am using Adobe Photoshop CS 2 and Image Ready CS 2.
And I did press Ctrl+G and I tried to group any kind of layer, but it didn't work.
When I'm home I will try again and tell you where I'm having problems ;)
EDIT: So, I tried once again and I got stuck at the same part again.
Everything works until I come to the Ctrl+G part.
When I press Ctrl+G the lines don't disappear.

Like I said I have Photoshop CS2, so which version do you have?

with the moving hearts...i use a little heart brush i have because i don't know how to do it any other way this icon i'm about to show you isn't mine but it's the kinda stuff i do...

i don't know how to do stuff like in the maddie icon but i can move the hearts or stars or whatever...
you just do it like the blurred line, you move it about a cenimeter and press th e capture button and then finish up to where you want the heart/star/dot etc to start over from...=)
