Interesting little tidbit, the age of consent here in NH is 16. So at 16 you can choose to sleep with someone, you just can't drink or smoke... but you can drive a car.

To a certain degree, yes. to a certain degree, no.

The idea of 'the global community' has opened up ideas to other parts of the world. The fascination with the laws of other countries is high here in America, especially with the youthes of today. They go to a European country and see how life is there and come back and question "why?" Why can't our society be like that. The simple answer is... it just can't. The harder answer is deeply philosophical and goes back to really the 1600s and I'm not about to drift this thread *that* far. Put simply, our country "grew up" with these ideals. No matter how people may think and act right now, they tend to mellow with age. I know many people who were the "anti-establishment, gotta fight 'the man'" mentality. You know where they are now. Working for insurance companies.

Eventually our sense of community will harken us back to what we've always longed for, a simpler time. When were the simplest of times? When you were a kid. You had established routines, you knew what was right and what was wrong. Its engrained in all of us.

So in terms of an 'American' way of thinking, perhaps our Puritan prudes were right.....
