Zac Efron has been cast in new comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. The 27-year-old actor will star as one of two brothers who post an online ad to find wedding dates. Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien penned the script, with Jake Szymanski as director and Peter Chernin, David Ready and Jenno Topping as producers.
Szymanski regularly contributed to Funny or Die productions and Saturday Night Live. He also helmed episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Bad Judge, and will direct Amanda Seyfriend and Rebel Wilson in The Social Life.
Efron previously collaborated with Cohen and O’Brien on Neighbors, with Cohen as executive producer and O’Brien as writer. The actor will star with Emily Ratajkowski in We Are Your Friends, and is also scheduled for Dirty Grandpa with Aubrey Plaza and Robert De Niro.
Zac Efron met up with a very special fan during his recent stop at Facebook headquarters.
In fact, the 26-year-old actor was so touched that he took to social media to write Kirby Koo a sweet message about how their meeting impacted him.
“Kirby, I have so much more I want to say. And I will – when I find the words,” Zac wrote. “But I’ll start here – When you stood up, with such strength, and sincerity and gave me perhaps the nicest compliment I’ve been paid…it meant so much more than that to me. Facebook and online media in general, show only half the picture- sure people see me, but I never get to see them.”
He continued, “Yesterday was the first time in a very long time that I was able to look into your eyes and remember why I do what I do- and will never stop. I needed that, more than you will ever know and just wanted to say thanks- face to face soon I hope.”

The impact you and your talent have had on me and so many millions of others should never be underestimated. Beyond the actor, thank you for being such a warm, generous person and I’d be humbled to consider you a friend.”

How did you feel when you got the part in The Lucky One?
First I was afraid, then I hung out with the Marines and started to gain confidence.
Who are your role models and who inspired you to become an actor?
People from my local theater. They were in college, and they were multi-talented. They could all act, sing and dance – I was amazed.
Like Logan, do you have a lucky charm?
I don’t really have a lucky charm. I think my family is my lucky charm.
How was it like working with Taylor Schilling?
Taylor’s amazing. I learned a lot from her. She’s the perfect Beth in The Lucky One.
What was the greatest thing about being in The Lucky One? Are you planning to come to Canada soon?
The whole journey has been incredible. Impossible to pick one moment. I’m always filming in Canada…should be back soon.
Did you get along with the dog while shooting The Lucky One?
