Are We Officially Dating? has snagged Zac Efron as one of the leads. The screenplay made the 2010 Blacklist (an annual ‘best of’ list that shines the spotlight on the best un-produced screenplays) and will be directed by writer Tom Gormican.
The Hollywood Reporter says filming’s expected to begin later this year.
Commenting on the romantic comedy, producer Justin Nappi stated: “Are We Officially Dating? is a story about timing and your 20s and just how difficult it can be. We’re thrilled to be teaming with Tom Gormican on his relatable script, which will resonate with a large audience.”
The official synopsis [courtesy of the Blacklist]: “A dating movie told from the male perspective about the lengths men will go through to avoid being officially in a relationship.”
Efron’s currently keeping busy on the festival circuit, with both At Any Price and The Paperboy screening at festivals.
A number of films will head directly to Telluride from their world premieres at the concurrent Venice Film Festival: Xavier Giannoli’s comedy Superstar, which looks at what happens when a man suddenly becomes famous; Ariel Vroman’s The Iceman, a dramatic feature in which Michael Shannon plays the real-life Mafia assassin Richard Kuklinski; Ramin Bahrani’s At Any Price, in which Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron play a father and son brought together to defend their family farm; Stories We Tell, a documentary in which actress-director Sarah Polley explores her family’s secrets; and Wadjda, the first feature from Haifaa Al Mansour, a female director overcoming the odds in her native Saudi Arabia to tell the story of a young girl who wants a bike.
Heading into its 43rd season, which starts Sept. 24, Sesame Street continues its long-running tradition of high wattage stars stopping by to mix it up with the cast of muppets. This year movie stars Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Amy Ryan, Steve Carell, Zac Efron, Casey Affleck, Paula Patton, and Melissa McCarthy are on the list, as are acclaimed TV stars Jon Hamm, Eric Stonestreet, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Hyde Pierce, Timothy Olyphant, Maya Rudolph, Ed Helms, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. Joining the fun are NBA Slam Dunk Champion Blake Griffin, Los Angeles Dodger’s Matt Kemp, Extra’s Mario Lopez, talk show host Wendy Williams, singer Colbie Caillat, rock band Train, rapper/musician Common, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American and Eastern European rights, excluding CIS and Russia, to Ramin Bahrani’s family drama “At Any Price.”
Black Bear Pictures and TreeHouse Pictures financed “Price,” which is in competition in Venice and will be a special presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival. The Venice showing will be the world premiere for “At Any Price.”
Bahrani directed and co-wrote the film with Hallie Elizabeth Newton. It stars Dennis Quaid, Zac Efron, Kim Dickens and Heather Graham.
The film was produced by Pamela Koffler, Teddy Schwarzman, Justin Nappi, Kevin Turen, Christine Vachon, and Bahrani. Ron Curtis, Mo Al Turki, Eric Nyari and Brian Young exec produce.
Story centers on a young man, played by Efron, who wants to pursue his dream of becoming a pro race car driver, while his ambitious father (Quaid) has alienated the whole family and set his sights on his son’s succession. When a high-stakes investigation into their business is exposed, father and son are pushed into an unexpected situation that threatens the family’s livelihood.
According to Variety, Ramin Bahrani’s At Any Price will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival 2012 in Special Presentations, which takes place September 6th through 16th, 2012. Head over to the gallery for a newly released promotional still from the movie.
Zac landed the #71 spot on the 2012 PopSugar 100 list this year! Zac has made the list for four years in a row now!
“Zac Efron was back in theaters in a big way. He starred in New Year’s Eve and voiced a role for The Lorax. For the latter, he made headlines for reasons other than his performance — Zac’s accidental dropping of a condom at the Lorax premiere became a much-watched viral video. In another silly clip, Zac showed a morning radio host he can undo a bra with just one hand!
Zac also traveled the world doing press for his Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Lucky One, alongside leading lady Taylor Schilling. Zac has also just kicked off promoting a more serious role in The Paperboy, a film from Precious director Lee Daniels, and brought that film to Cannes with his costars Matthew McConaughey and Nicole Kidman.
Zac’s personal life was colorful as ever. He had a short-lived romance with Lily Collins and continued spending time with good friends like Ashley Tisdale and Rumer Willis. In December, he got a new tattoo that read “YOLO” on his hand. He started Summer with the thrill of seeing his beloved LA Kings clinch the Stanley Cup.”
Warner Home Entertainment has announced that the Nicholas Sparks romance THE LUCKY ONE, directed by Scott Hicks and starring Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling, Blythe Danner and Riley Thomas Stewart, will be available in a two-disc Blu-ray/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack on August 28th, 2012.
THE LUCKY ONE follows Logan (Zac Efron), a marine who has served three tours in Iraq and travels to Louisiana to search for the woman he believed was his good luck charm during the war. Since this is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks, I’m sure there is some kind of heart-wrenching and tear-jerking twist that will make everyone sap up, but hopefully give us a happy ending anyway.
Special features for THE LUCKY ONE include:
Zac Efron Becomes a Marine
Watch The Sparks Fly – The Romantic World Of The Lucky One
Zac and Taylor’s Amazing Chemistry
Millennium Entertainment has set an October 5 theatrical release date for “The Paperboy,” meaning that as the trees start shedding their leaves, American audiences will be treated to the spectacle of Nicole Kidman urinating on Zac Efron.
Directed by the Oscar-nominated Lee Daniels (“Precious”), the idiosyncratic and steamy thriller was a real love it or loath it entry at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The peeing scene attracted the lion’s share of the media attention, as did Daniels penchant for shooting Efron in various stages of undress.
The animated movie The Lorax, starring Zac Efron as Ted, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on August 7th, 2012. Pre-order it now at Amazon.com or pick it up in stores nationwide in three weeks!
Warner Bros is in talks with Jason Bateman, Zac Efron, Goldie Hawn and Leslie Mann to headline the ensemble of This Is Where I Leave You, the Adam Shankman-directed adaptation of the Jonathan Tropper comic novel about four siblings who come home to sit shiva for their deceased father. They are trapped in the house for seven days, and all the skeletons are bared. Tropper, who memorably adapted Harvey into a script that once had Steven Spielberg committed to direct, adapted his own novel. It is a script that is drawing interest from a lot of talent, with other stars expected to step up for other roles in the ensemble.
Spring Creek’s Paula Weinstein and Jeff Levine are producing with Shankman’s Offspring Entertainment partner Jennifer Gibgot. Hawn, who last starred in 2002′s The Banger Sisters, is in talks to play the clan’s mother. Bateman, Efron (whom Shankman directed in Hairspray) and Mann will play siblings. The intention is to begin production in early September. Shankman just directed the musical Rock of Ages, with Tom Cruise starring.
